Don't forget he usually carries TWO chords of wood (in 33 gallon trash cans) out to his campsite on the island.
That's a mack'd out setup, but a B*$%h to get on the trailer, I would presume...

Posts: 591 Bradenton, FL | I certainly wouldn't like to have to right it after a ditch?????? I've never seen it fly a hull... but then I've only seen it a handful of times. Someone needs to talk this guy into a Reynolds 21 or Stiletto 23. Oh... and he used to have a similar setup on a Hobie 18

Posts: 334 Crystal Beach/Dunedin CSWY Fl. | Darryl, You are correct in not wanting to have to right the beast. When Dave first got the boat, he did "indeed" capsize. I don't remember it happening again, but I may be wrong. Coming back from the camping islands (fully loaded with "hand truck" for transporting equipment) it is quite a sight to see only an inch or two of the bows in a blow; on a screaming reach. Those of us that sail at Dunedin Causeway can verify the durability of this 21. As an added attraction Dave has a "solar powered" light atop the mast. I'll try and get a pic with the boat "lit up" and throwing spray in the future. We have another camper "wild man" that actually makes Dave look tame. He has a "tent box" mounted between the hulls, in front of the forward beam. He has much the same set up as the 21, except on a P18. I've seen him pitch pole coming in off the Gulf in a blow with all the stuff he carried in two gargage cans, his tent and mattress and rum bottle scattered over the pass. He still had his "mixed drink" holder hanging around his neck when he surfaced. Just though I'd give you snow bound sailors a little chuckle. Dave Dave | | |
