He also has the 21 set up for heavy air. Two batteries in each hull for the surround sound you see off his shrouds. Seen him single-hand when every-one else was on the beach.
Be down in February, later

Looks like the speakers are now on the bow beam...or are those headlights?

Not stereo Jake, "surround", theater I belive. But now that I look at the picture closer, the speakers must be higher. What's that on the shrouds Dave?

Mike,

Don't forget he usually carries TWO chords of wood (in 33 gallon trash cans) out to his campsite on the island.

That's a mack'd out setup, but a B*$%h to get on the trailer, I would presume...

Here is another pic that shows the speakers up in the spreaders. All speakers are water proof. Has a fine cd player (with remote, of course). He is also operating a "light kit" that includes rows of green lights under the tramp. During night sails you can hear the tunes, see the unusual light...and wonder what the heck it is. Those are also speakers on the forward beam. The ornament on the forward beam is a Gargolyle (sp) that has lights for eyes. ) Those are drink holders on the shrouds.

This will give you a better look at her underway.

Yes, like most of us that single-hand at Dunedin Causeway he sets up and takes the boat down by himself. To include putting the 900+ pounds on the trailer.

Of course you can't forget the hot-pink mainsail with the Pink Floyd "Dark Side Of The Moon" graphics.
He also has a custom-made trailer that tows the 21 in it's widened state.

I've been thinking of taking a camping cruise to Marthas Vineyard, and carrying one of my Kayaks on one of the wings of my H17. The kayak is 12'8" long, and only weighs 30lb. Now I'm convinced it's worth a try!

Solo you ask? Most of the time! And Dave sails standing up on the wings with a 10 foot stick. The island campers are a devoted group of NIGHT sailors. And I mean ALL night. If you haven't seen this H21 "Cat Cruiser" cranking at night with his under-tramp low-rider neons you have not seen cat sailing at its...ahhhh...most refined. However, if he doesn't get another CD besides Meatloaf I'm gonna puke!

Brian, if you tie your kayak down the center, fore and aft, underneath your trampoline, would you have a trimaran?

I've never seen it fly a hull... but then I've only seen it a handful of times. Someone needs to talk this guy into a Reynolds 21 or Stiletto 23. Oh... and he used to have a similar setup on a Hobie 18

I've seen it while on vacation. It was blowing stink and Dave was having a great time single handling. He has two maybe three batteries in each hull. Hull was up, boat was balance, and yes,he was standing on the wing. It was on a day were I sailed back from the camping island bare poled sailing the same model boat.

Darryl,

You are correct in not wanting to have to right the beast. When Dave first got the boat, he did "indeed" capsize. I don't remember it happening again, but I may be wrong. Coming back from the camping islands (fully loaded with "hand truck" for transporting equipment) it is quite a sight to see only an inch or two of the bows in a blow; on a screaming reach. Those of us that sail at Dunedin Causeway can verify the durability of this 21.

As an added attraction Dave has a "solar powered" light atop the mast. I'll try and get a pic with the boat "lit up" and throwing spray in the future.

We have another camper "wild man" that actually makes Dave look tame. He has a "tent box" mounted between the hulls, in front of the forward beam. He has much the same set up as the 21, except on a P18. I've seen him pitch pole coming in off the Gulf in a blow with all the stuff he carried in two gargage cans, his tent and mattress and rum bottle scattered over the pass. He still had his "mixed drink" holder hanging around his neck when he surfaced.

Just though I'd give you snow bound sailors a little chuckle.

Dave
