Posts: 12 Cadiz, Spain | Thank you ncsutrey, I really appreciate your answer but if you don't have one of those kits It'll be diffcult for you to know. You can see the actual pieces in http://www.murrays.com/archive/32-33.pdf, at the end of the second page. The pieces go in each end of the tiller tie bar. | | | Re: help needed: nacra tiller tie bar upgrade kit

Posts: 12,310 South Carolina | The N20 doesn't have such a system but my 6.0NA and my 5.2 did. I don't clearly understand your problem. The "Nacra Rudder Alignment and Crossbar" kit won't fix any interference issues but are to allow you to adjust the alignment of your rudders. It should function exactly the same way that the solid bar with two holes worked....and the adjuster should only be installed on one end - it's not necessary to install two of them.
If you could post some pictures of the actual interference problem, we could probably help you more.

Posts: 829 Charleston, SC | Yep, my 6.0na had the same style connector. While I also had the inline adjuster on the crossbar, I had no problems with binding. Did you just install them? Be sure that your holes are straight and are in the exact center of the pipe...if the holes are offset any then you may have a problem. Trey N20 314

Posts: 364 | I put the same kit on my 5.O five or six years ago. It worked great. Inspect the new connectors to make sure that they are identical on both sides (I don't remember for sure if they are, and I no longer own the boat). Make sure that the offset of the inner (crossbar) side is "forward"; ie, the pins for the crossbar should be vertical. The connectors should be squared, not smashed shut, and make sure neither the crossbar nor the tillers are smashed too badly either. Good luck

Instead of cutting anything, you may be able to reshape then ends of the cross bar so they don't interfere with the stainless fittings (use a sander) - but you're right, it just that the holes in the new fittings are too close to the rudder arm not allowing enough room for the material between the end of the cross bar and the hole in it. This probably means that the rudder alignment will be slightly off as well.
