Found link on the F18HT forum to this homemade pole-integrated snuffer:

Snuffer

It looks good and it's more portable (comes apart) so shipping would be cheaper.

From the BableFish translating page:

"New Snuffer With an aim of facilitating and of accelerating the operations of entry and exit of the spi of my Bimare Javelin 2, I created after one year of study and research, new a snuffer which offers in more of other advantages. If you have comments and/or you want more information, you
constrained step! Advantages * Entered of spi equal on the two sides (To compare with the snuffer on the side of the boom, the spi does not pass any more over the boom before entering the snuffer) * Entry (hole) larger for facility the entry and the exit * Lighter than the original kit of Bimare Javelin 2 (approximately 2 books) * Pocket of spi easily detachable and made with fabrics "Smoke" to cut rays UV * Ease of transport (2 sections like the masts of board with veil)"

I like the use of "board with veil" masts!! Just don't ask him any questions or try to send comments...he starts calling you a "constrained step"?!?!?

Wonder how he runs the tack line...seems like it must be completely external...I'm afraid to ask :-0

New Snuffer design

I wanted to improve the launch and retrieval of the kite of my Bimare Javelin2. After one year of research, I am launching my new snuffer design with many other improvements. For questions and comments, feel free to contact me

Advantages
Unrestricted opening on both tack, the kite never has to go across the pole to be retrieved unlike conventionnal mid-pole snuffer system.
Wider opening to ease the launch and retrieval of the kite
Lighter than the original Bimare design, weigth is about 2lbs
Removable sock made of UV resistant "smoke" fabric.
Built in two pieces (like a windsurf mast) for easy transport
[/color]

BTW I did not design the snuffer, I simply tried to translate the page.

I have an integrated, snuffer, that's a tube, no bags to hang down wet, on the lower jib tacked Nacra 6.0.

It's a mid pole, between the forestay and fore end of the CF apin pole. Held on with heavy duty zip ties. It's a piece of 6" sewer/drain pipe, corrugated outside, smooth inside. The fore opening is a customized, plactic 'roof jack', I Put a fiberglass and placitc coated 'roller' on the tip of the opening, since that's where most of the bind is, it just 'rolls' right in the tube.

On my 6.o, the larger 'e-o' snuffer would catch waves, and w/o the chute up, it would wrap the cf pole under the bows, and when the boat would slow down from the resistence, it would 'snap' back in place. Then the bag and spin would get all wet, hanging very low, catching every wave off shore, as in the Great TX.

My problems of the lower poled 6.0 have been solved with my new snuffer system. Tramping it is often out of the question on my 6.0, with the already cluttered tramp, unless the crew realy know the boat and lines, they get lost in the lines, frustrated, etc.

The whole system is NOT heavy at all, Tomko even picked it up and agreed. Works great! Sorry, no pics yet. Maybe it will get on a picture in the Great Texas race in a few weeks.
