While surfing around, I found a pic of a boat with a unique spinnaker--check it out! I doubt we could use one on a cat unless the wind was REALLY light, but does anyone know or have an idea what the logic is of this thing??

Gary, I was trying to think of some way to describe it, and I think you have done it! It's very interesting, and I am looking forward to hearing an explanation of the concept. Does anybody know who designed the sail?

Looks to me like a lazy spinnaker. Maybe that center piece is so it does not flog around, maybe for small crew on a cruiser. Seems like a lot less work to keep the chute full.
Dunno just asuming.

It reminds me a lot of the "venturi" spi we saw.. 10-15 years ago? I seem to remember that the power generated with such a spi on a dead run was higher than a convential spi.
Perhaps they are out to find more power trough having some kind of slot and an airfoil to provide lift? Where was the picture found?
