Isn't it annoying when you have read something on a forum, then can't find it again when you need it!! Somewhere I read through a list of checks a buyer should make before buying a used cat. Would someone be kind enough to repeat that again as a reply. Its a Nacra Inter 20 that I am specifically interested in. Cheers guys.
Chris

I was searching for this a while back and when it finally came up in another thread I saved it. I think it is what you are looking for........

The Nacra 20 is a pretty solid boat and I have not really seen any common flaws in the hulls are rigging. There have been some changes to the rigging as the boat matured.

there was an issue with the 'old-style' trampoline that slid into milled grooves in the side of the hull. In reality, the bolt ropes on replacement trampolines were too small which resulted in the trampoline pulling out from the hull. Old original trampolines rarely suffered from this problem. You can send an original trampoline back to be updated with a larger bolt rope and side lacing for about $150 US.

Other than that, look for corrosion on the beams (particularly around the mast post), closely inspect the mast for any cracking (I've never seen any but it is a carbon mast), and like any other catamaran check the stiffness of the decks.

Just to add to what Jake said

the upper gudgeon "eye-bolt" will need to be replaced as soon as you take possession of the boat. Don't take a risk. As Power-Dave says, "you never know when one of those F@)#&@#%s is going to break on you"

Check the dagger gaskets, they like to come out.

if its an end-pole snuffer, check the tube where it meets the forestay bridle ring. If it hasn't been protected there could be dangerous wear around that area.

Check the spin for pinholes due to snuffing. Check the mainsail window for cracks and holes.

Make sure the mainsail goes up and down the mast fairly easily.

The tramp is the sticking point though. Its a real pain in the butt when you're on the water all day and the tramp starts pulling out of one of the corners. I've almost ended up in the drink a couple times because of it.

Hi Jake,
What year did they stop putting the tramp in the hull grove? How are they attached now? pic?
Thanks,
Dave

Last year I believe they stopped making the groove in the side of the hull. They're using the Nacra F18 (which was adopted from other designs) style tramp system that laces to large rounded bolts on the side deck. I like this system - gives me something to hang on to when it gets hairy.

And it's more aerodynamic, right?

Yeah, but it sure is fun to stir the pot!

As for BEFI, I'm sure there's a telltale they could pierce on somewhere....
