Posts: 1,658 Florida Suncoast, Dunedin Caus... | Awww come on Jake, It's already been three weeks. All I'm going to do is this. Said recently by Mary. Second paragraph, last sentence. This may be a tangent from the topic, but while all you experts are here.....does anybody know what product would be best to put on the rotomolded plastic boats like the Wave and the Getaway to make them shiny and to repel road tar and generally make them easier to wash. Oxidation does not seem to be a problem with the material used for these boats; and sanding is not an option. Would products like Vertglas or 303 work on plastic, even though there aren't any pores to seal? Rick says wax might work, but the boat would be slower. Anybody have any ideas? I want my Wave to be shiny! Or at least clean. Now....argue with that

I found wet sanded with 600 grit was the fastest but only lasted one or two races, because it would pick up crud. Then I went to polished, and it would last one or two days until it picked up dirt, oil, grime, etc. from the sea. I was never into cleaning the hulls every day. I ended up going with teflon polish, though it wasn't the fastest, it had the best longevity over a week long regatta for an overall average, by keeping the grime off. This was mostly gaged by how often I got clear air off the starting line, and butt dyno. There may be something even better than Teflon by now to keep the film off. | | | Re: Waxing

Posts: 2,074 Northfield,NH USA | Anybody want to buy all my wax? I'm converted (thank you Jake very much) to an ALL VERTGLAS, ALL THE TIME kind of guy. I'm going around looking for stuff to put it on. As for the season being over ....... Still hoping for one more sail before it goes away for the winter. 40 miles away from here, on the top of Mt Washington, they have 1 1/2 feet of...snow. This is when I get jealous of you guys down south and especially Bruce in St. Croix. You folks can keep the hurricanes but I'd swap the rest with you in a heartbeat. Seems like I just took all the summer stuff out of storage and now I have a weekend of puttin' away to do. Greg

Saturday high about 88 low 69 degrees. Water temp 85. Look at the bright side, your boats are LOW mileage. Just one thing more about waxing. Like a lot of you I've tried just about every wax out there. Except for one none of them last on a car let alone a boat thats in the water alot. The only wax I really like and in my opinion lasts the longest is called Liquid Glass.

Anyone got any pics?

Catman said, "Like a lot of you I've tried just about every wax out there..." Did you try a Brazilian wax, Mike? Did it make you sail faster? Yeouch! | | | Re: Brazilian wax?

Dave I didn't realize how naive you are. I'll have to be more careful when I send you jokes. I guess the main thing is you learned something new today.

Posts: 223 Western New York | Jake: I don't care if it's fast or not. I just put Vertglass on a blue 1987 Hobie 16 and a white 1990 Hobie 18m and I'm impressed! The temperatures almost reached sixty and the sun came out; within four hours I managed to get six coats on each and used up the entire bottle of sealer. I'm converted! Brazilian, Canubian, North Dakotan, whatever...I just wanted clean hulls. At my age, I'm happy to be riding these things...I'm kind of anal anyway. I agree with Greg; thanks for sharing. Wyatt | | |
