I did a quick search in forums but couldn't find anything new to try so thought i'd ask.

Basicly my rudder pin has jammed in the casting, it's off the boat but i left the pin in the casting for lack of a better place to keep it over the winter and it is now jammed such that no amount of oil and hitting it with a mallet will free it.

can anyone offer any other suggestions?

thanks, Andy

Andy:

You might try some CLR. I got a zipper loose with it.

liquid wrench will free anything

I think CLR is an acronym for calcium, lime and rust. It is used to clean bathroom tile and the like.

ACK to liquid wrench!

PB Blaster. Find some at your autoparts store where all the spraycan stuff is. Will free frozen spark plugs in engine blocks. Let it soak for about 10-15 minutes then hit it with a second soaking, wait another 5, then hit it one more time and then try to free it.

If that doesn't work, cut pin, drill it out, and go buy another.

What kind of boat? (it might help to understand what the pin and casting look like).

Had a zipper that was corroded REAL bad to the metal slide. Soaked it overnight and it cam loose. Try CLR (Calcium, Lime and Rust) if you can find it.

After soaking it in penetrating oil for a while you might tap on the pins with a punch from underneath.

If you can't break it loose it might be easier to remove the gudgeons from the boat and cut the pins. Repalce the gudgeons and pins and polish the holes in the rudder castings before assembly.
