It appears to be some kind of problem with the forum clock. The most "current" post "was" made at 12:29 a.m. tomorrow. And others were made later this evening. Very interesting. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />

Chad is working on it.
That might explain why read posts keep coming back as new ones. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

Chad:

Red new post numbers won't go away once you have read them. Still needs tweaking.

The problem appears to be fixed. As I had hoped, once we caught up to the future and into the present again, the posts started bringing the threads up to the top again.

Now my only problem is that all mine show in Central time instead of Eastern time. Is that just me, or is everybody not showing the posts in their local times? I don't know how it worked before the upgrade, but I assumed everybody was seeing all the posts with their local times, wherever they were in the world.

Mary,

You have to set your local time as an offset from the forum time.

If you scroll right to the bottom of the Main Index page, on the bottom left is a box of Extra Information. At the bottom of that is a Current Adjusted Date link which tells you what your current setting is. All you need to do is note how far out it is then click the link which takes you to your personal display preferences page. Change the time offset according to the amount of offset you require, hit Submit and your time is adjusted. (It's easy to adjust 'the wrong way') Simple!....NOT <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Doug,
Now that the time is back in synch, the yellow folder light goes out and the red numbers indicating new posts goes out after you have opened the thread with new posts.

As before, after you have read a particular thread, in order to make the lights go out, you have to go up to the top of that thread and click on "Index," in that bar that says "Previous," "Index," "Next," etc. When you click on "Index," it takes you back to the list of posts in that particular forum, and you should see the lights out on the post you just read.

P.S. However, if you want to leave the "lights" on so you can find it to go back and read it again later, just hit your normal "Back" button (instead of that "Index" button) and it will take you back to the forum thread list without eliminating your "lights."

Thank you, John! I have re-set my time to add an hour to the "forum time," since I am one hour later. It never even occurred to me that I had to do that as a result of the forum software upgrade.

I'm having the opposite problem with the unread posts indication. Many people have said the red numbers won't go away, but I'm not getting any in the first place. The threads used to be highlighted a darker grey background when there were unread posts as well but this isn't happening either. I'm logged in and I have cookies allowed.
I can see no indication of new posts at all now. Very inconvenient <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

System clock is still off, not just by offset (whole hours). The time error might explain why the "Edit" function won't work.

Time can be checked at the bottom of the Main Index page (which still takes 15-40 seconds to load!)

Tim,
I think your problem may be the same as what we had here, with things being somehow posted in the future. It has gotten back to normal here, but maybe it will take longer for yours to catch up so that things start getting posted normally again.

And be sure to adjust your time setting for the forum, as Jalani explained in this thread. I don't know how many hours you are behind or ahead of the U.S. "Central Time" -- I think you are ahead of us; aren't you? At least I know Australia celebrates New Year's before we do. So, you would have to add a bunch of hours to the forum clock. Once your clock is on your local time, instead of U.S. Central Time, maybe everything else will work right? I hope. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />

David,

there is no doubt that the forum is much, much quicker since the upgrade. The Main Index page load time for me is near instant (as are all the forum pages). Are you sure that the delay is not at your end?

Mary:

The forum is working great. The red numbers are still not showing. I just have to look at each thread by the date and see if I have read it.

If your numbers and lights are not coming on, then it is NOT working great for you. Rick has the same problem on his computer that you are having, but everything works fine on my computer.

So what causes the difference? It must be some adjustment that has to be made within certain computers.

Rick's clock is set properly to synchronize with the forum server clock, same as mine.

Oh, well, somebody will come up with the answer to this mystery. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

John, Thanks for telling me that you get the Main Index quickly. It certainly does mean it's at my end and not Rick's. I cannot imagine how only this one page-jump can be slow when all others are so fast.

And I want to take a second to applaud Rick and Mary's investment and efforts to make this forum blazing fast (except for my own private slowdown). Thanks! <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

I have all the issues that other describe on all the 3 individual PC's that I work on (no cookie problem therefor). Also sometimes it works as it is supposed to but more often it is not. I'm still just remembering dates and times. I also adjusted the time settings very early on, didn't help.

Regarding the highlighted folders for new and unread posts and the red numbers in parentheses for number of new posts:

We have four computers in our office, and I have checked them all again this morning. Mine is the ONLY one that works for the referenced functions on the forums. They work fine on a friend's computer just down the street.

So what causes the difference?

Don't fix it!? You have done a great job. Thanks so much for the fantastic fix. Mine is working great. Usually it is my computer that is out of sync.
Super fast now. Generated in 0.11 seconds in which 0.082 seconds were spent on a total of 13 queries. Zlib compression enabled.
Everything else seems to be working also.

OK, here's something peculiar:

My computers (3 of them - 2 at home one in the office) all work as I'd expect; red numbers for new posts, yellow folders on the left etc. BUT one of them, my laptop, shows numbers of new posts with red numbers in the indexes and clears them once read, EXCEPT for the F18 forum!!! <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

It doesn't matter how many times I read the posts in the F18 forum, when I go back to the Main Index there are 2 unread posts showing for the F18s. I finally had to go to My Home and select Mark All Posts Read to clear them. Then someone posted a new post in the F18s and the problem is back!!! <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" />

I notice that in the My Home section you can reset the cookies for the site, I'm going to try that next.....

[color:"red"] EDIT: Since expiring the cookies and logging in again all seems to be working perfectly. Unfortunately no-one has yet posted to the F18 forum so that I can check whether that particular problem is solved (at least for me personally).

Mary, it might be worthwhile expiring the cookies on one of the other misbehaving computers (while logged in) then logging in again and see if it sorts that computer out? [/color]

The new system works great, and thank you very, very much.

I'm experiencing the same thing with the new posts not clearing for the F18 forum, even after repeated readings and exiting through the "index".

In regards to the issue where the number of unread messages and the folder colors are not working, the following is from a support request I submitted to UBB.threads.

https://www.infopop.com/q/q.php?a=vt&ticket=1147923434-R9GG7

They are aware of the issue and trying to find out what is going on. Maybe we can help provide some more info for them to work with. Please post here your OS, browser version and if you are having problems with the unread message totals and unread message folder colors.
