New boat.. So I got a custom colored spin for it. Dealer loaned me a white one until my new spin arrived from performance, everything worked great. Now I have my new spin and I am having problems with fluttering of the trailing edge (Leech), the edge between the clew and the head.

I have tried different settings. The mast has been raked back to different settings. I have tried different settings on the spin(snuffer) pole pre-bend. I have even tried different lengths of rope at the tack, getting the tack either closer to or away from the spin pole.

Am I missing something? I realize that the adjustment should be where the spin sheets pull down more on the Leech and less on the foot of the sail.

Any constructive help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Mike Cole

Hey Mike,

Congrats on the new boat! I've had the same problem with the EP spins on my I-20 as well. The flutter usually goes away when the sail gets broken in a little bit. However, one time I had to send the spin back to get a re-cut. If the problem persists you may have to send it back. Tough it out for a few hours of sailing first to break it in, and the problem will most likely go away.

Have fun,

Hi Mike - Sorry to hear you're having problems....mine's been a dream the last 2 years. I too had a white loaner spin while my custom one was being built. Once it came in, it worked fine, no problems. If yours keeps up having problems (see above post), you might talk to your dealer or call Skip Elliot at http://www.epsails.com to get firsthand info and help.

Sail fast and have fun,

P.S. Eventually you'll put a small tear in your spin when sailing. I have had good luck with clear sail tape to patch these small "ow-ies"....still holding strong.

Thanks for the ideas, I have sent a email to my dealer, jack young at PC, and EPSails. I appreciate your help.....

I love this boat, it works great for my size, 6'4'' @ 240lbs. My normal crew weight is in the 450+ range, so we don't have much problems, except when it is light. I guess I need more time on the boat, especially in the light stuff.
