Posts: 3,528 Looking for a Job, I got credi... | Has anyone any idea how many F16's may attend the Cat open ? Also, are any single handers planning to sail the Single handed Chanpionship ?
Same question for the Spitfire's
Cheers
Simon

Posts: 3,528 Looking for a Job, I got credi... | I'm planning to be there. I know that Aaron is not, and I think Mark/Colin(A-class) were a "probably if the weather looks OK".
I'm planning to singlehand, and would like to take part in the singlehander championship... but I'm not sure what this means for any 2-up F16s as presumably we'd then be on different starts?
Paul A class assoc have said they expect around 20 boats as it is the Nationals Yes, the single handed champs will have a seperate start (and we should be going first). F16's will be in the fast Handicap, so if you want to take part in the SHC, you will not be with any 2 handed F16's. Current projections look like we'll have 50ish single handers as I would like to encourage as many F16's as possible to sail in the Single handed Champs as it will also provide an excellent set of results for me to plug into the proposed SCHRS rule changes

Posts: 954 Mumbles Y.C Wales U.K | I am looking forward to a great 'memorable' weekend! I really don't care about the singlehanded championships. I would much prefer to promote the solo/double handed ethos of the F16 fleet synergy. (Never forget the Circus) MP*MULTIHULLS | | | Re: F16's/spitfire at Grafham for open 21st / 22nd

Posts: 145 Cheshire, UK | I'm planning to come with my Spitfire. I'd like to meet up with you guys and see how you get on with solo sailing (on the sea) and those dagger-style rudders of yours when you get snagged in mooring lines...

But Grafham is a pond! and the answer to snagging dagger rudders (or any rudders for that matter) is don't snag them in the first place!

Posts: 145 Cheshire, UK | When I said "see how you get on" I probably meant "discuss..." Anyway, despite my best intentions, I do catch a mooring line every now and then - one of the hazards of having a club course that is adjacent to the moorings - and in the heat of the moment I will sail too close on the 'tideward' side of those little buoys, courting danger every time. Broke my rudder stock last time - Doh! Then I figure that if I am going to break gear with kick-up rudders, then a Stealth might still make sense.

Dave Tugwell, I know, has snagged a mooring - no breakages - just a short delay until normal service was resumed. I have to admit to a snag at speed through moorings also. Again no breakage, just a sudden stop. I guess it took about a minute to get going again although it felt a lot longer at the time!

If so what is the rating for a single handed Stealth 'R' with a F16 main and a spi pole which is longer than the 800mm bow limit? Can you take a guess from 1.08, 1.04, 1.03 or 1.02 as these are the various ratings which I have found so far. MP*MULTIHULLS | | | Re: F16's/spitfire at Grafham for open 21st / 22nd

Excel sheet on the SCHRS website, or send me all the measurement points and I'll do it for you. I would guess at around 1.02; but without the measuremnets I could not confirm. I would need LOA/ LWL; area mainsail; luff mainsail, all up weight, Spi area; lenght and area of plates.

Posts: 954 Mumbles Y.C Wales U.K | The F16 single handed rating might be changing for the revised SCHRS ! I hope it does Simon. But will there always be a difference between the solo and double handed ratings, as this could be considered as detromental to Class which is actively promoting these sailing options under one unmbrella. Surely there must be some sort of tweek that can be introduced into the rating system to account for this. I have a few more questions on this topic but it's probably better If we discuss them over a shed full of beers at Grafham. MP*MULTIHULLS | | | Re: F16's/spitfire at Grafham for open 21st / 22nd

OK, I am hoping to stay the night at the club (freezing in my tent no doubt) so hopefully we can sit doen for a chat. There are always going to be differences, and I could write pages on the reasons why, but it would be much easier to explain over a drink at Grafham.
