Posts: 1,383 Kingston SE South Australia | G'day my new to me stingray number 577 has the decks back on after getting new bulkheads and the delaminated top decks stripped of foam, then divinacell foam reattatched feels solid as hell. Ive now undercoated with perfection undercoat twice and about to do my second coat of perfection topcoat it already looks fantastic. So now to my question I want to paint nonslip all around the edges as my sailing ability means I will be looking for grip every where on the boat at some stage, would you paint the non slip where you sit? How far down the sides? How wide on the deck edges? Any other tips Ive searched the forum couldnt find much. Thanks in advance for your help and I will post pics once its together. regards

Posts: 1,383 Kingston SE South Australia | Thanks Mike I have seen that I have some really fine additive the guys at our club use. It was more of an idea of where to put it on the boat but thanks for your interest regards

Posts: 1,383 Kingston SE South Australia | Good replys guys the photo shows you dont put much non slip on at all . Ive repaired the decks on two cats this year and had to remove that stuck on non slip, the mess I found under it and the effort required to clean it up, orange oil, thinners, acetone, elbow grease, scrapers days and days Ive sworn of stick on for life which is why I'm going to paint on. True to my way of doing things I may have been going too far, perhaps I'll just paint a bit of non slip on then see where else I need it. regards

Posts: 122 | The anti-slip particles offered by Awl-Grip and others, as well as the anti-slip tapes, are designed for walking on with shoes. They just don't work well on a cat deck where your legs and butt will sit and slide. They will tear up your wet suit, knee pads and your skin There is a company called Gibco that makes silicone molds of many different anti-skid patterns. With these you can re-create the OEM style molded-in anti-slip pattern, if you wish. They have a one page website good for contact info here: http://www.gibcoflexmold.net For removing contact or decal adhesive, there happens to be a very effective product designed specifally for that purpose. I have used many gallons of it and can tell you it make this really awful task quite easy and comfortable. http://www.peerlesschem.com/products_airline_4.htmlI know this info probl'y would have been more useful a couple of weeks ago, but better late than never Jimbo | | | Re: Help with non slip deck please

Posts: 1,383 Kingston SE South Australia | Great info guys. Warbird a couple of guys at our club have used the really fine grit. The way I understand it I can just keep building paint up over it until its as smooth as I want it. Jimbo its never too late for someone like me that loves old boats, Ive contacted both those companies to get info it will be interesting to see wether I can get the product in South Australia. I dont mind the harder grit because we always wear sailing footwear here. The old feet get a bit numb.
