Anybody know of a cheap fix for beachwheels. I have a set of Cat trax with a flat. I was thinking of trying fix-a-flat but wondered if anyone else had any ideas?? I'd rather spend $125 on some new blocks or something rather than a new wheel.

What kind of wheels do Cat Trax have and what's the cause ff the leak? If they're inflatable, wouldn't you be able to use a simple patch or plug repair kit and then reinflate?

It's probably leaking through the valve stem. I've used 5200 to reseal the stem with marginal success.

I've been through this many times. Fix-a-flat doesn't work because the wheels never travel at any speed. You are supposed to put he fix-a-flat in and then drive to spread it around.

Put tubes in the tire that's leaking. Go to a tire place that can handle it. Not all have the proper machine for doing this. I've been charged anything from $15 to $60 dollars so shop around. The most expensive places were ATV dealers. The cheapest was Tire America here in town.

If you use your wheels in salt water the valve stem will corrode and need to be replaced every few years.

I've encountered 2 culprits. First is the valve stem, either the core is bad or the stem itself is leaking. Both can be replaced. The other is the bead where the tire seals to the rim, remove the tire and clean or repair the bead. If neither of these work a tube is the only option. Still cheaper than a new assembly.

I have put tubes in both tires on my catrax. I bought the tubes from these guys online after I couldn't find the right size tube locally. They were very prompt sending it to me. I think it cost me about $28.00 for each (including delivery). No problems to date.

I found a tube close to the right size at a lawnmower place. Also had to get a valve stem extension because the tube would draw in as it was inflated. Works fine for low speed/low pressure cat work :-) I didn't have too much trouble popping the bead loose with a block of wood and a hammer. Pretty cheap long-term fix.

I have had the stem problem before. The metal part of the stem starts to corrode and releases from the rubber causing the whole thing to slip out. The best solution that I could find for it was GOOP. I took the stem out cleaned it up with some sand paper. Made sure that most of the powdery stuff in the rubber part of the stem was scraped out. Glued the metal stem in careful not to get any glue in the inflation valve. It has worked for over a year. I did contact the lawnmower shop to see what they can do for me. Maybe the next time I lose a stem I will put an innertube in.

Later,
Dan

GOOP is the elixir of the gods...I can't think of how many things I've fixed with that stuff. Required supply item for every household.

what about tubeless tire replacements? I have a tire and a wheel with a flat, no valve stem opening, no tube(says tubeless on the side.) Will the local tire shop know how to fix this, and what if it has a leak? How do you fill it back up? I see nothing on the tire to fill it back up with.

I would try the same stuff they use to fix tubeless motorcycle tyres. This is sort of a rubberstick which is inserted in the hole and then torn out and vulcanized. Should work on a beach wheel.

and if a tree falls in the woods but nobody is around to hear it, does it make a "sound"?

Seriously? This thing doesn't have an air valve? Tubeless just means that the bead of the tire is meant to seal air-tight to the rim and doesn't require an inner-tube.

Jeremy Leonard of Surf City Catamarans in Santa Cruz, CA has a slick method of taking flat tubeless beach wheels and inserting a inner tube. Works great and I've haven't had a problem since. I've tried cans of fix-a-flat but only got a temporary repair. Another area to check is the valve stems. Sometimes the rubber cracks over time allowing the air to bleed off.

If I am standing in the middle of the forest talking to myself and my wife is 100 miles away, am I still wrong?
