im not a racer and have an old h16. i am tired of redoing the lower portions of the hulls every two yrs. my "beaches" tend to be comprised of gravel and other sharp objects.

has anybody used rhino liner along the lower hull line? the stuff seems really tough in the back of a truck. i know its way heavier than paint but seems like it would be more durable than fiberglass.

West Marine carries a material they call "keel guard". I know a lot of power boaters that put it on the front of their boats so they can beach the boat without worries. It's a thick rubber strip that glues around the keel. I'm not sure if it's meant to go the whole length of a boat or if it will wrap tightly enough around the sharp bottom of the H16.

You'll be better off if you could make some sort of landing pad for your boat...old carpet or strips of PVC tubing.

Jake.. has this been done before…take some 6” schedule 40 PVC Pipe the length of the keel...cut it in half…heat up one end to form an upsweep...contact cement some carpet on the inside and have a couple short lines from the front of these skids to the forward chain plate so they stay in place when the boatis drug along… might be poor mans beach wheels to transverse soft sand.

I can't say that I've ever seen that before. (but if you put a series of PVC pipes on the ground perpendicular to the direction of travel, the cat will slide on them like they were ice.

i get wear on my hulls from beaching the cat during the day at stopping points. i launch from a regular boat ramp. the wheel kits look like the bomb as far as a beach launch goes.

ive seen the keel guards but they run 85-100 each and ive considered them.

if the rhinoliner material would work, it would be cost effective.

The Rhino Liner will work just fine but will compromise some speed. If speed is not a concern then your on the right track. Be sure to tape off a waterline where you want the rhino to stop. Prep by sanding with 80 grit paper & be sure to whipe hull down with a wax & grease remover before application. DOUG
