Can anyone shed some light as to how F18 Worlds boats are being rigged now that the roller furler is no longer required? Pics would be great. Thanks.

Geez, John - I sent you a photo a couple of weeks ago.

If you want to see it, you just need to come to my house. I only live about 4 miles from you. <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

BTW, Michael E. says you should turn in your man card for not going to MWE this year.

Matt,

I'm interested to see what other options there are and who may have the "hot set-up"...especially now that the F18 Worlds have been completed.
BTW the man card is fully renewed. I don't see Michael E. surfing Lake Michigan in January <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

It was on the French SocoaBeach.com site:

I had enough bits in my parts box to cobble it together, but haven't had a chance to try it out yet.

The bridle tangs will be lower on the Tiger in the future. The jib luff is longer. The pole is supposed to be right next to the jib tack connection. I understand that there will be a jib available for the older boats that will fit the new configuration. You will take off the jib furler, and there will be a slit in the jib luff where the bridle would otherwise stop it from moving past then the line that holds the pole up to the bridle will be the continuation of the jib luff. Sounds to complicated to me. I think when I take off the furler I will see how the present jib flies and take it from there. It would probably mean moving the sheet up the clewplate as the sheeting angle will change.

Later,
Dan

how much disadvantage does the roller give you? Is it wt? Is it windage, or is it something with sail shape? I have a non furling jib, but before I disassemble anything, I need the 411...

I, personally, don't think it gives you any disadvantage. The only reason I think they did away with it is that it is no longer useful on a Jib with longer battens. Also it saves the manufacturer a bit of cost in producing the boat.

If you already have one I wouldn't worry about changing it.

I think the main thing is the cost to the manufacturers initially. Hope they pass it on...doubt it though. But lets think about this if the jib does not have to furl around the forstay then you could change the shape and put full battens in it. Full battens will save the jib. There are plenty of people that do not furl the jib for fear of messing it up somehow. Sail shape may change a bit as well, could be a bit fuller in front and have a nice exit near the main. Taking out the furler will also allow exsisting jibs to be hung lower making righting moment slightly better. These are just some of my ramblings as I am thinking about any advantages. I did not mention weight as you can imagine it weighs someing at the front of the boat where we do not want it.

Later,
Dan
