I don't think that has anything to do with seaworthiness or safety of the boat itself. When a distance race has a minimum size, it is usually because of the speed difference (race committee people don't want to be up all night on the beach waiting for the smaller, slower boats to finish -- and worrying about them).

I wonder if there will ever be a distance race again for the "slow boats," like the Hobie 16's that pioneered the Worrell 1000.

Meanwhile, I think it's great that people are doing camping trips on small cats. Sounds like fun -- as long as you heed all the great advice that has been given on this thread.
