Here's one of the responses I received.

Hello,

Thank you for writing me about the Mayor's proposed Building 11 contract at Magnuson Park. Tomorrow, the Parks and Seattle Center Committee is considering a proposed 40 year contract, with a 10 year extension option, to a private for-profit organization.

I do not support the contract for a number of reasons. But, a key problem is that the contract would require the City to abandon the commitment to the federal government to use the building for parks and recreational purposes.

I can understand why you are concerned about Sail Sand Point. Sail Sand Point is the kind of organization that we want in the building and in Magnuson Park. If the Council rejects the contract as I recommend, I will work to ensure that Sail Sand Point continues without interruption and that its operations are not in any way jeopardized.

If you would like further information please let me know. Thanks again for writing.

Regards,

Tom Rasmussen
Seattle City Councilmember

There is always more to the story.
Maybe Tom is doing the right thing.
