Ratherbesailing,

Indeed, someone from the GC better answered this question right away (I'm not part of the GC however) as righ now we are getting in the unfounded rumour phase.

First with regard to Singapore. It was planned to have the first Global Challenge at Singapore, don't we all remember, But singapore cancelled at a late stage after which Zandvoort 2007 was the only possibility that could be arrange in the limited time that was left. I think Singapore was also left with a cancelled Taipan Nationals a few years earlier. In my personal opinion this is an issue to seriously consider. Personally I hear very good things about Singpore and it would be a very nice location to race.

Mumbles 2008. There was really only one contester for this year Global Challenge and that were the Brits. No other venue/club offered seriously to organise this years event and so Mumbles was selected as the venue without any class discussions.

Global Challenge 2009. I seem to remember that no official location has been set yet although it looks highly likely that this will be the USA. Again, because this proposal is the most developped one of all possibilities. Gulfport also has significant experiences in organising an event of this magnitude and VWM is nearby for support. I don't see any alternative venue of that calibre even on the "what if" page.

Global Challenge 2010 and beyond. The selection for these venues are still open. Australia has shown interest in these and I gether Singapore as well ? There is some discussion to have the Global Challenge every two years in order to boost participation and allow for more time to get things like transport to and from organised. Personally I think this to be a very good idea; I certainly can't justify going to a far off venue with my own boat each year. And I believe that a concept like having a GC every two years and a large event like the Europeans/North Americans in the other year is a much smarter setup.

So Ratherbesailing. If you want to get the F16 global challenge to Aus then work out a serious proposal and send it to the Governing Council. I'm sure they welcome it warmly. With regard to decision making. When you have really only one serious proposal for each year then there isn't much deciding to do. I think we have to give the GC some slack here. It is a big task getting something like this organised; we could just as easily have no Global Challenge.
