OK, it took a while, but I finally got the receipt and everything in order for the sails to send to the insurance guy. Monroe County Sheriff's department was astonishingly efficient at sending me the report several weeks ago. I made one phone call and spoke to one person with my case number and she had emailed me a PDF of the report within minutes. Talked to the local progressive adjuster in town this morning and faxed over the report, the receipt, and the current exchange rate between the AUS dollar and the US dollar. I was honest that I actually paid a little less for the sail because the exchange rate was better in early December but he said don't worry about it and I used today's rate...the difference was about $100 in my favor (but it will probably cost me a little more than that difference to replace the sail with the current exchange rate and shipping). Everything was faxed over this morning and I have a feeling I will have a check by week's end.

As for the agreed vs. replacement value on the policy, I confirmed that my boat policy is replacement value but that does not extend to this kind of claim. If the boat was a complete loss, the policy will cover what it takes to replace the boat with something of equal or greater value should an equal replacement not be able to be located.
