Once you get the tire off of the axle, set the rim on its side hold onto something and stomp on the bead with your foot to break it. Install tube, and off you go.
Yeah, if you're a 6'4" freak that works. I used the bucket of the skidloader to bust the bead on a set I had.
If the tire is still there, a tube is a pretty good way to fix it.
