Oh wait...it is heavier aloft and when you have very little righting moment, the gains for adding the weight up high are small - maybe that's it?
Good point, that 49 mast was indeed lighter then my (same length) all alu F16 mast.
Our spinnaker cat apparent wind is more direct than theirs and we still rotate to 90 degrees downwind.
Some of us are reducing mast rotation now on cats even while sailing downwind, see discussion on the F16 forum of say 3 weeks ago. However, their is a limit somewhere and mast damage will be part of it. Faster however it is for sure.
