Posts: 1,203 uk | There was a guy down in the west country that had one about 15 years ago, not heard any more of it since, it might have gone to europe. Keep on the lookout for 5.5 hulls and a inter20 mast, then make your own. Talk nicely to the NacraUK guys and see what they can do. There was one put together recently for a US customer - gonna cost a few quid tho!

Posts: 185 Shanghai, China | you might seriously consider looking for them in the netherlands. they are offered quite cheap which might balance the extra cost for transportation. good luck!

Posts: 1,203 uk | thats not a bad buy for about £3K - carbon mast too.
They don't look like nacra bows on that photo, though the daggers do look like nacra.

Posts: 9,582 North-West Europe | The hulls aren't Nacra indeed. It is a custom 18 Square that did use some nacra components like the daggerboards I believe. Are component are however professionally build. The hulls are PESA, they used to commericially build A-cats in the 80's and early 90's I believe. The mast is most likely a Saarberg carbon mast with a landenberger sail if I remember correctly.
So indeed it is not a NACRA 18 sq. even though it is an official 18 sq. (it used to be a formula type of class) and may interest the initial poster just the same.

Posts: 185 Shanghai, China | rictorn,
as you made some statements of performance somewhere, the nacra 18 sq is bloody heavy and was said to have a tendency to nosedive downwind when trying to do the wildthing... you will never catch a modern A with that. the boat Hans is selling might be a different story. It is a little lighter than the nacra and could have the potential to be as fast/faster upwind than an A in medium winds as it is wider and carrys more sail. The advantage of the old nacras around is that they are quite solid and sold between 1000-2000 € and mostly you just need a new sail on them and thats it. but its a boat which weights more than two A! and you better never capsize it...

if costs is not an issue, you can also contact aicher+egner, the german flyer producer. they used to build the flyer XL which was 85 kg and 2.8m wide with enlarged sailplan. not many of those boats have been build so.

Posts: 2,584 +31NL | nice designers signature: it really looks a bit like a baby extreme 40 :-) The VX40 was designed by Loday, Loday works with Reg White, Reg White designed the Shadow. Circle complete! <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> (Just realised that I should have posted the Shadow review in the Nacra A3 thread though). Anyway, a Nacra 18m2 has just been put on sale overhere in Holland: http://watersport.marktplaats.nl/catamarans/82930369-gemodificeerde-nacra-18m2-aangeboden.html | | | Re: nacra 18 sq in the uk?

Posts: 1,203 uk | Hey rictorn, this one looks to be bit of a bargain. 2 mains, 2 spinnies, snuffer and maybe a trailer for about £1500! Perhaps TONY FX1 will translate the advert for you?

Posts: 2,584 +31NL | Translation: This completely refurbished 18m2 is equiped with all modern sailinggear. The boat is equiped with 2x pentax-mainsails, 2x 21m2 spinnakers (repaired), 2 trampolines, new snuffer, boom, and new shrouds.
Last winter the hulls have been have had a bottom job and made completely watertight by Hans Primowees (FYI: He's a well known cat repair guy). The thread and bolts off the beams have also been replaced, the rudders and boards are original and in good condition. On the pictures you see both sails, a white and a blue pentax sail. A good boat with all the bits and pieces.
The boat sits on a good road trailer with sailbox for road-travel, for which it does need to be taken apart.
Option to trade for a 18-20 foot cat. I even think it includes a road trailer, but I cant really make that out from the text. | | |
