My paint fella showed up and painted the twins today, reasonably happy with the result, will have to let it sit for a couple of days to cure properly, which isn't goin to be easy for me not to do anything to it. Must show self control.

I know that the voices in my head aint real, but they have some pretty good ideas. There is no such thing as a quick fix and I've never had free lunch!
I'm not sure what the next step is, wet n dry (very fine) or just cut and polish or both? I guess I should wait til the weekend before trying anything though.
Any suggestions would be well recieved.

Matt, If polyurethane it takes a bit of work to fine rub as it is very hard. But if you do you will see anything corser than 2,000 grit in the gloss. If really pushed you could do 1,000 as the scratches left are not too bad. 600 is easier but you pay fot it in drop in quality of the finish. Takes about 16 hous to wet rub. 4 hours per side per hull in 2,000 grit. I'd still buff with light cutting compound or polish with alight cut in it. Stay away from the gunwales with both or you'll go through the paint quick smart.
Hope it helps. Regards, Phill

As per Phills suggestion some time ago, (when I thought I was ready to paint) I have used Dulux Luxepoxy 4 White Primer in the end probably 3 coats with lots of wet sanding and Dulux Luxathane White, paint man tells me 4 coats, I wasn't really expecting that much but its come up pretty good, and he hadn't painted a boat before, so wasn't to know.
No clear coats I don't think its necessary, I think I'll leave it as is for the while, and see what happens over the next 6 months as to what course of action to take.

I'm not really concerned if I;m a bit under or a bit over, so I didn't actually weigh them again after painting, but prior to painting they were at 22kg, I've since beamed it up and the tramp arrived from goodalls on thursday, so thursday night it was on. I could probably give you a platform form weight in the near future, but not individual hulls.
If you can get the right materials and build carefully, which I did most of the time, I've no doubt they can be easily 22kg painted. If I build another theres a lot of things I've learnt along the way, which would ultimatly result in a better, stronger and lighter hull, but you have to start somewhere I guess.

Hmm, I could not find a distributer of that product here in the US of A. I think I am going to go with an auto paint such as Sherwinn Williams as was applied by the builder.
Surely will, was hoping for this coming weekend, Portland Regatta, but I think I'm working Saturday, so probably the week after unfortunatly.
Been working this morning finishing putting the mast together and hoping to find someone to help lift it outside I was going to try and stand it up and throw the sail up for a photo.
Will post it later if it happens.

Heres a photo, I put the sail up for a couple of minutes and then down again as to not wreck anything. Couldn't attach boom as I'm making the gooseneck now.
Will be taking so more shortly before dropping the mast, but its been a long time coming and finally I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, it's a good feeling.

All classes and divisions, from junior to keel boat caterer for. The Taipans are strongest at Portland, there will be 5-6 this year, including myself, as I'm joining their this year (about 2 hours for me).
Its possible another junior 420 would be there, theres one at Warrnambool that would likely attend.
It is part of the Taipan traveller series as well, so that could see quite a few attend.

I looked up Portland on the internet after I posted last night and it looks like they don't have any Stingrays but do have A's, its looking like it will be doubtful to get to this weekend racing but with enough notice we might be able to get our five A's down for a roadtrip next time. I noticed 420's weren't listed but it wouldn't worry my kids sailing with other juniors in different classes. As an early invitation to your club our Lobster regatta where we do a series of races on the Saturday then a morning Run about 15km from Cape Jaffa to Kingston on Sunday morning is 12th and 13th January all classes welcome and juniors encouraged. regards

No A's anymore, there is a couple at Warrnambool that would likely attend the regatta. Taipan is the main cat class, and really now days the only cat class. Once there were Hobie 18's, Mosquitos, A Class and Taipans. And the Taipan took over.

Oh well I may just bring the Stingray to bring some stately dignity to the club then my daughter gets to crew wont be this week though. Looks like Berny may let me use his F14 moulds, at the speed you build boats you probably want first use of them to build a boat for your little tacker in the soon to be clear shed space you'll have <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />. regards
