Posts: 2,844 42.904444 N; 88.008586 W | On my Nacra 6.0, with the foil, the EO snuffer I have sits low out there in front, and has been a problem with chute snuffed, in big seas.
I'm now lashing it just in front of the foil, Much the same technique as this 'guk' style snuffer. The tack line is more conventional as the tack is on the fore end of the pole, with the reteival line working basically the same.
This looks like a good set up to me. It really helps to lube the spin with 'McLube', silicon spray, or something similiar if you don't have the special spin material that's out now.
Once my top spin halyard shieve(block) was wasted, and resulted in a great deal of wear on my spin, because it wouldn't go up and down well.

Posts: 344 Arkansas, USA | Hello Kurt! There are threads on the F16 forum at this website on snuffers on Taipans so you should check them out. I am not familiar with the Proust snuffer but I do have experience with the pole-end snuffers and a mid-pole snuffer made by a US Tornado sailor, Lars Guck- I believe there is info. on Lars web page about that one. I much prefer the midpole snuffer due to decreased windage and weight more centralized. I have my "skunk" (as Guck refers to his snuffer) just forward of an imaginary line projecting down from the forestay- ala the Tornados and it works well there. I use a similar system to the Tornados for the halyard and have been putting the snuffer bag on top of the tramp rather than under. Posts: 344 Arkansas, USA | I agree that snuffers are harder on spinnakers than hand launching due to the friction and wear involved. As to separate chutes- This is a good idea because the siliconized chutes would be hard to hand retrieve (compared to a non-siliconed) AND in distance races one is not usually doing frequent, rapid launches or retrievals nor requiring the ability to launch/retrieve from either tack (another advantage of the end pole and midpole snuffers over bag launching- With bag you have to retrieve/stuff on the tack you intend to launch next time). Plus you can completely do away with the increased windage/weight/drag/complexity of any snuffer system. Plus one can have different cut/size spinnakers for distance vs bouy racing then-

Posts: 344 Arkansas, USA | The bag can be of any material- I have had a dacron bag and a Mylar/Kevlar bag and sticking didn't seem to be a problem (biggest "stick" is the "wad" of spi that tends to occur at the retrieval line attachment points as they enter/exit snuffer hoop), the E-O snuffers do use a stretchy type of mesh.

Posts: 344 Arkansas, USA | Andreas- I have used a 1:2 hoisting system and it works well except you lose some ability to "force" the spi out of the snuffer hoop if it wadded up when going in and, since I wasn't able to use a 1:2 retrieval system (there is simply not enough "room" between the rear of the snuffer bag and attachment of the retrieval line to the spi and the rear beam to allow for the amount of line necessary- on my boat at least) it means there is a lot of "excess" halyard laying around when the spi is hoisted. I use a continuous halyard/retrieval line so this was a problem. If you used separate lines and the "dog leach" style take up spools this would negate that problem. I believe you have an F 18HT (Ventilo?)- Most of the US F 18HT's at the Nats used a midpole snuffer (the same "skunk" I have)- You might want to ask on their forum what halyard/retrieval system they found worked best-
