We have an end snuffer pole w/ a clean break and some carbon cloth left over from Scollon Productions (mascot costumes.)

Can we use the same resin as for fiberglass? What would you use as internal piece to keep it aligned while the CF sets up?

Thanks.

Jim.

same resin.
use a binding cloth or tape to squeeze the carbon flat and tight to the surface. Squeezes out excess resin and strengthens job.

use epoxy resin (the same you would use with glass). Don't use polyester - it is a weaker material and it doesn't adhere to the carbon fibers as well. For squeezing the wetted fabric, use two layers of electrical tape. It will remove cleanly once cured.

I recently repaired my hotstick by making a jig to align the two broken pieces, then wrapping with several layers of wetted carbon (epoxy), taped with electrical tape, lightly perforated the electrical tape with a nail, and let it cure. (the perforations allow excess resin to seep out). A light sanding after removal of the vinyl tape is all that's needed.

Jim, what the hell are you making, and when are we going to see it?

Here's a good video instruction.

It's for building a spin pole new, but the principles are the same for repair.

Dave,

Check the boat home building forum.

Just 18HT hulls w/ Gcat rig for now. If we don't make Catfest, we should make Outback.

It won't be pretty...

Is it an optical illusion or is that jib tack look way too close to the mast? I suppose you had to use the tangs already in the bows for the cross piece for the tack?

Why did you go with this rig instead of the original mast? Is it broken?

I have thought about putting up my H14 sail on my F16 when it's blowing 25+ but have yet to try it.

The jib is close, but it is a work in progress. We are starting with existing front stay mounts to set the cross bar since this does not require any modifications to the hulls. Also, the original G-cat rig did have a lot of jib overlap (damn near a genoa.)

The hulls came with just crossbars, tramp and traveler with the rest coming from our totaled G-cat.

This is phase 1. Long term it will have a square top main and high aspect jib w/ spin.

If it sails respectably with this rig, next step will be to get the spinnaker working.

True.

And honestly, the building is as important in this case as the sailing. Maybe more so...
