hmm hmm, gentlemen,

I need to add non skid to the decks of THE BOAT, when I mix the paint should I skip the reducer since I will be rolling and not spraying?

You can use a piece of glass to test consistency before applying. When I did it with two part epoxy auto paint I had to add thinner. How ever in my case I was rolling and tipping and going for a mirrored surface, not doing nonskid. But gut says yes but probably not to the same degree that you would for a mirrored finish.

I used awlgrip non skid on THE OTHER BOAT. The best method was to broadcast after rolling and tipping. The base coat needs to be as strong as possible because it will hold the grit. My guess is that some reducer will help the paint set up strong. For awl-grip I used a sheen killer, and overcoated the grit with more stuff to lock it in. The overcoat should be reduced way down to keep it from filling the grip pits.

Awl-grip extra coarse is wicked rough and terriffic non skid,
Awl-grip medium was great for something you must sit upon

Regards
Chet

here is something you may want to check out; http://www.grizzlygrip.com I bought a quart to to give it a try. Note that the base is a two part linear alphitic urethane - just like Awlgrip and others. Also, the non-skid is ground rubber instead of glass beads or sand.

You've barely been alive "decades" i.e. plural, like two.

I don't think so, arbo. Wasn't exactly serious. But it would probably work if you don't mind black...

Hi Mark, Hi Todd,
The new boat works well which is always a shock to me cause I usually try out some new design ideas. The building seemed to go on forever....and ever. I took Greg, Casey, and Onika out and they seemed to like feel of it too. It's fast, well balanced, but not as responsive as the tornado of course.
I was able to rent the same mooring for next season so you guys are welcome to give it a try anytime. I tried to post some pictures on the forum but couldn't get it to work. Tami was able to get one of them up. I'll have to give it another try. Sailing magazine did an interview and a photo shoot but I don't know when or if they will use it. I wish I could get copies of the pictures though - there was one sailing close by Pitate's Cove pier when a big gust hit. Suspect that was a really cool picture. See you in April,

I know that counting to three is difficult for you, but thats the number of decades that I've nearly been around.

"nearly"
That's funny. My 7 year old does that too.

I'd think that bedliner spray might be a bit on the heavy side, but maybe it's because they spray it on thick...

Why not just apply the two-part coating on as usual, and dust with sugar crystals before it sets? Then you can wash off the sugar after it's dry (the sugar dissolves, leaving the rough surface) for the non-skid??

Surf board builders call it "sugar deck"

A courser finish could be had using Kosher salt or unrefined sugar ("sugar in the raw")

I have the Pettit skidless compound onhand. My concern is that I want to get even distribution of the material. The material will settle to the bottom of the tray or container. Skould I put it in a salt shaker or add it to the paint and mix often?
