Mike,

I do believe that the "Ship's Store" here at CatSailor carries and can supply you w/ the correct size "Inner Tube" for you beach wheels.

Has it stopped snowing up your way yet????

Yes stopped snowing (for now).
I was hoping to just get one here in Thunder Bay,(save shipping ,duty, exchange).I found a 22-12-8 that the tire shop guy seems to think should work.

Dude, you're so far past the "dry rot" stage it's not even funny.

Mike- I just picked up two tubes Saturday. Couldn't get the 21-12-8 size either, ended up just using a 22-11-8 and it seemed to fill everything fine.

Let me know and I'll grab two more for you and I'll bring a set of tire spoons to the regatta and we can swap them out. I think they were about $6.

Local Yamaha Honda motorcycle dealership. After years of spending virtually every single dollar I made funding my motorcross habits there, I get the same discount as the employee's. Not a big deal, retail was like $10.50 But some parts have rediculous mark ups, and 5% over cost kicks butt in those scenarios

Is it that easy to put the tubes in?

Not to ask a stupid question, but hey why not...

Why would it matter if there was dry rot on the tires? You're putting a tube in it, and they don't need much pressure to work in the sand.

Also, does anyone here do anything to preserve the life of the tires? Armor All or something to that effect. Does covering them (as in, with a tarp) help for long-term (winter) storage, or is it best to bring them indoors?

Mike

It matters when they're dry rotted enough that the bead separates leaving an inner tube partially wrapped with a tire.

Covering them definitely helps. Our N20 was setup with the beachwheels stored under the trampoline of the boat next to the storage box and I've configured my a-cat trailer the same way. Both have trampoline covers so the beach wheels are shaded from the sun.

David needs to post a pic of his tire. That would explain alot. It looks like a tube with a bad re-tread.

Yep, took me longer to find the spoons, a pair of side cutters to cut off the valve stem, and remove the wheels than it did swap em out.

Those tires are stupid soft, the have no tread, a ton of sidewall and no load capacity. Just about as easy as they come.

when I added the inner tube, it was only rotted, but 1 yr later it was a bad retread. The pressure on the old tire was more than enough to have "catastrophic" failure at an inoppurtune time

Actually the tube was vastly overinflated, caused the old rubber rim to break when it sat out in the sun and increased the pressure even furthur, Catastrophic failure triggered by the weight of that big heavy Marstrom on top of it.
So just put some Salve on it and hush up!
