I've got one of these travelers on my Falcon, and the screws that hold the metal plate for the swivel cam cleat to the car have started to come loose. Does anyone know how to tighten them? You can't get a screwdriver onto them because the sheaves are in the way, so I guess you need to take the sheave assembly off, but I can't see how to do that. Any ideas?

I was under the impression that it is the studs that pass throught the sheaves that hold that plate on? If so, then the whole assembly should be loose....
On mine (from memory) there are a couple of nylock nuts holding the sheaves and eye onto the car.

On mine, the sheave assembly pivots. The sheaves are held onto the pivoting bit of metal by bolts with nyloc nuts. It looks like it'd be impossible to tighten these too without removing the whole sheave assembly, but they're definitely different bolts.

If you can lever the assembly up firmly with a screwdriver you should put enough tension on the bolt to stop it rotating as you do the nylock up.
good luck

there should be a small short pin that holds that top pivoting stainless steel bracket in place. On the old cars, I believe you had to take the end cap off each end of the traveler to slide out (by shaking) the pins. I'm not certain how you remove them on that traveler though - if my memory serves, the pin might be threaded and have a small flat-head slot on it...you would stick a small screwdriver into each end of the car to unscrew those pins.

Once you have that stainless bracket out of the car, you will have full access to the heads of the screws. Use locktight when putting it back together.

Paul, the shive assembly is held on by 2 dowels that you can remove by taking off the set screws from each end.
The screws holding the plate are taped into the main base so you have to do it from the top.

Thanks for the input. There are some small flat head screws on either side that look like they're in-line with the pivot, but they seem to be made of very soft plastic, and it was clear that my multitool was going to destroy the slot long before they started to turn. I assume these are just plastic caps to stop the dowels falling out?

I'll give it another go this evening with the right sized screwdriver.

OK, job done, but what a pain. Even with the right size screwdriver, the stupid little plastic screws got pretty mangled, and even when they're out, you're still stuck with small metal dowels stuck in a horizontal hole and no way to push them out. Would be easy given the right sized magnet, or the ability to turn the car on its side, but I eventually got them with a hand operated vacuum pump and some rubber tubing...

The grub screws got completely mangled going back in, but the loose screws are now done up proper tight with added threadlock so hopefully I'll never be doing that job again!
