There is a big race here in the States, the TransPac, (
http://www.transpacificyc.org/ )from the west coast to Hawaii, but they didn't allow any multihulls in the event for years. It is usually a downwind sleigh ride and Roy Disney (of Disney World fame) usually builds a new boat, 80+ feet, just to win the event. I wonder if he's ever sailed on a 60 foot racing trimaran or on Play Station or if he still thinks 17 knots downwind is "Flying".
I just checked their web site and for this year, there are two multihulls entered, one is a 60'f tri and Pete Melvin (of Morelli and Melvin and A cat world Champion) is listed as Watch Captain. Should be very interesting vs. the 80-90 foot mono sleds. The race rules require the multihulls to be at least 45 feet in length yet the mono's only 26feet?! And the multihulls start two days after the fastest, biggest mono's. That's fair...NOT.
