Thanks again Darryn and David,
How can I join the S.A. Mozzie Association? I am a resident of Victoria and a member of the Victorian Mozzie Association. Even if I did a Steven BRADBURY and won the S.A. States, I wouldn't expect to win the championship as I am not a South Australian. I would however hope that I could race and have my race scores maintained along with the rest of the fleet. I don't know whether I can make the second weekend in February, anyway.
Darryn did you have to join the Victorian Mozzie Association to sail in our states?
I understand the safety side of things in sailing with junior crews. However is it just a shift in liablity to say that you can't race in the S.A. States with a crew under 12 but you can race in the same races if you pay the club fees but the results wont count?
During the Victorian State Titles, I sailed with probably the most competent crew I have ever sailed with and he was 10 at the time. I don't know whether he has any qualifications or not. He certainly knew more about sailing a Mozzie Mk2 than me. If Victoria had adopted the 12 year age limit and he didn't have qualifications he wouldn't have been able to race to spite his competency. I don't have any sailing qualifications either and I started sailing when I was 9.
You would hope that the master of the vessel would put the safety of his crew as the number 1 priority and would not be sailing in conditions that would adversely affect the crews safety and wellbeing. However I do understand the necessity to legislate if you have a foolish person/s who continually behaves in an unsafe manner. The problem with legislating is that the people who do the right thing are adversely affected also.
Not meaning to stir up a hornets nest just voicing some things that confuse me and interested to hear what others think.
