3) If interstaters can play, my crews are only 6 & 8, which is clearly under the 12 year old age limit and they don't hold any sailing qualifications. How would this affect an entry and eligibility to sail.
I asked about the history off this rule and found out it was introduced 13 years ago after one of the competitors sailed in the states with an 8 year old crew (daughter).
You wont be able to race in the states with your underage crew, one of the locals also cannot compete as his crew is 11.
While it is inconvenient in this circumstance I actually agree with the training requirement for underage crew. An untrained 6 years old who falls off the boat on a big lake or ocean is going to be terrified, at least if they have done the course they will know their life jacket supports them and how to get back on the boat. My kids have done the basic course and enjoyed it, they now jump off the boat and expect me to come back for them <img src="http://www.catsailor.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
