I agree that snuffers are harder on spinnakers than hand launching due to the friction and wear involved. As to separate chutes- This is a good idea because the siliconized chutes would be hard to hand retrieve (compared to a non-siliconed) AND in distance races one is not usually doing frequent, rapid launches or retrievals nor requiring the ability to launch/retrieve from either tack (another advantage of the end pole and midpole snuffers over bag launching- With bag you have to retrieve/stuff on the tack you intend to launch next time). Plus you can completely do away with the increased windage/weight/drag/complexity of any snuffer system.
