Just a litle note - there is no provision for shortening course like we have in club racing. Removed so that you can't have a local race officer shorten course when your team is in front. What the race officer can do is shorten the length of the course and indicate C-.
Right, I was speaking in a more general sense.
I've never really understood the no-shortening provision, seems to protect juries from dealing with unscrupulous PROs at the expense of good, fair PROs, and for that matter, the good of an event. What I mean is, if races are being tossed because they can't be shortened, there is most definitely a negative effect on the leaders of those races.
Granted, everyone competing knows this going in, but to me, this is an ultimate example of tail wags dog. But then again, with all that is accused of going on in judged events (gymnastics, ice skating), this may be a small concession. Of course, if the race were going your way for a medal and got tossed, that would be hard to live with when it is so obvious that there's a viable answer used at the vast majority of other regattas.
